Advantages and disadvantages of meta tags

In terms of web indexing, meta tags provide a lot of benefits and some drawbacks. In HTML, meta tags are just given a framework; they are not given a specific definition or instructions on how to use them (Henshaw, 1999).Unquestionably, meta tags are crucial, but if they are written improperly, they might actually work against you rather than for you.The overall visibility of the website can be severely harmed by improper meta tag configuration, whether done intentionally or out of ignorance. However, using them does not ensure that the website will appear first in the search engine's list of results (Guenther, 1999). To add controlled language and subject indexing, however, to Web pages as they are being created, meta tags are now the sole option (Humphreys, 1999).
